Founded in 1958, Sierra Madre Little League is a small town baseball league with a lot of heart. We are supported by a wonderful community and our goal is to learn and have fun!
Tee Ball:
4 to 6 years old. Learning baseball for the first time. Batters hit off the tee, with lots of help from the coaches and volunteers. Coach pitch is introduced toward the end of the season. Everybody hits, we don't keep score, we try to get outs but we don't count those either. Lots of fun. Players typically play two years of tee ball.
Minors A:
6 to 9 years old. Developing baseball players. Coaches pitch to their own players. We keep track of outs - three outs end an inning. We don't keep track of score, but the kids always seem to. Players start in coach pitch with limited skills and leave able to throw, catch and hit. Preparation for the next step up where the kids pitch.
Minors AA:
7 to 10 years old. First division where kids pitch. Moving toward real baseball. Kids pitch from 42'. Three strikes and you're out. If the kid pitcher throws 4 balls we revert to coach pitch. The coach gets four pitches, if the kid doesn't hit, he is out. Minors AA players are selected to play minors based on a try out and a draft. Players not selected for AA will play Minors A to further develop their skills.
Minors AAA:
Up to 11 years old. Real baseball. Kids pitch from 46'. Walks, steals, we keep score and we keep stats for the teams. Players play the position where they best help the team. Minors players are selected to play minors based on a try out and a draft. Players under 11 not drafted to play Minors AAA will play AA or A.
Majors:
Up to 12 years old. The highest level of play in Little League Baseball. Players are selected based on a try out and a draft. Players under 12 not drafted into Majors will continue to develop their skills on a Minors team.
Intermediate (50/70):
13u. Utilizes a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths and has postseason tournament opportunities, including a World Series, offers a transition for players between the standard Little League field size (46-foot pitching distance and 60-foot base paths) and the Junior/Senior field size (60-foot, 6-inch pitching distance and 90-foot base paths). Many of the Junior League rules are used such as runners being permitted to lead off bases, runners may attempt to steal at any time, and allowing an on-deck batter. The culmination of the International Tournament is the Intermediate (50/70) Baseball World Series, featuring teams from around the world. All expenses for the teams advancing to the World Series (travel, meals and housing) are paid by Little League International.
Junior League (60/90):
13U/14U. Utilizes a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. Modified diamond dimensions may be used during the regular season. The local league has an option to choose a tournament team or ("All Stars") from within this division (and/or from within the Senior League Division), and the team may enter the International Tournament. The culmination of the International Tournament is the Junior League Baseball World Series, featuring teams from around the world. All expenses for the teams advancing to the World Series (travel, meals and housing) are paid by Little League International.
The Little League Challenger Division ®:
Founded in 1989, The Challenger division is Little League’s adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges. Any individual with a physical or intellectual challenge may participate. If an individual can participate in the traditional Little League Baseball or Softball program with reasonable accommodations they should do so. The Little League Challenger Division accommodates players ages 4 to 18; or up to age 22 if still enrolled in school.
All Stars:
All Star teams are selected toward the end of each Spring baseball season. Players are selected based on their overall performance, skill, sportsmanship and coachability for their league age during that season. This is done through ballot voting, with the participation of players, team managers and members of the All Star Committee. For more information on All Stars click here .
Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in all divisions of Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the league.
